The seasonal bowl of kake-soba (buckwheat noodles served in a hot broth) topped with clams @ Sarashina Horii in Azabu-Juban
Some will recognize this spot from the show No Reservations as it is where Masaharu Morimoto took Anthony Bourdain in Tokyo to have soba. However, despite passing by the place numerous times previously, I never made the connection as its location on the ground floor of an apartment building and the display of plastic versions of its various dishes out front gave little indication of what awaited inside.
Mrs. CB and I hit on a bunch of winners during this visit. They have seasonal options that change monthly like the wonderful dish pictured, but the traditional cold mori-soba (a handmade brownish colored buckwheat noodle) that is dipped in sauce and the toriyaki (what chicken teriyaki should really taste like) were also worthy choices.
